Researchers
The Institute for Cardiovascular Research evolved from SUNY Upstate's internationally recognized cardiac arrhythmia research group. This integrated team of investigators led by JosČ Jalife MD is supported by more than $12 million in research grants from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. These investigators conduct multidisciplinary research aimed at the understanding of normal and abnormal intercellular communication and electrical wave propagation in cardiac muscle. Continuous funding of this group since 1990 has led to the establishment of a highly creative and productive research program which has increased the understanding of fundamental mechanisms of life-threatening cardiac rhythm disturbances.
