About ICR

The Institute for Cardiovascular Research (ICR) at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, was officially established in 2002, but has been a world leader in the fight against cardiovascular diseases for decades. Here, scientists and physicians from a variety of disciplines work together to develop new methods of diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases, with the primary goal of preventing premature cardiac death.

Already, scientists at the ICR have made major advances in understanding the molecular and cellular bases for and the fundamental mechanisms of complex, life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Ultimately, the ICR will be an international resource for the study of cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease, heart failure and sudden cardiac death.

The ICR consists of 40 SUNY Upstate faculty members, postdoctoral students, graduate students and technicians will be recruiting outstanding scientists from around the world. Long-term plans call for the ICR to double in size as it attracts some of the best and brightest minds in cardiovascular research.
