A Practical Approach to Practical Skills for Supervisors and Mangers: Module-By-Module

Your input created a new approach!

We’ve taken the 3-day supervisor/manager curriculum and are now offering it module-by-module. This means you may register for one, three, or all modules.

The program also has exciting new elements:

  • Speed coaching sessions
  • Addition of the DiSC Personal Profile Assessment
  • Concludes with a Leadership Panel Discussion

Organizational Training & Development conducted a campuswide Educational Needs Assessment
and discovered a consistent request for topics such as conflict resolution and problem
solving, how to have crucial confrontations, motivating employees, managing employee behavior,
and leadership skills, to name a few. In review of existing curriculum to meet these requests, we
realized the content already exists; “Practical Skills for Supervisors and Managers”. But, you also
let us know that three days away from your area just isn’t feasible. So, we created “A Practical
Approach to Practical Skills for Supervisors and Managers: Module-By-Module”
. Each topic
will now be offered in a 1 ½ -2 hour format and you may register for all modules or just those
that will most help you be more successful in your role.

All sessions are interactive and experiential, inviting supervisors and managers to examine their own skills
and knowledge and to create the best possible performance environment for themselves and their employees.

We’ve also been listening to your requests for more coaching opportunities and have designed this program
to allow this through the concept of speed coaching. We’ll ask current managers, who have successful work
groups and experience with SUNY Upstate, to spend an hour offering their feedback on your current
issues . This will be a one-on-one opportunity for you to ask questions, brainstorm strategy, and be able
to immediately implement new ideas. More details to follow upon registration!

Also, research has shown that successful supervisors and managers are those that align and support the
strategic vision of organizational leadership. So, we’re going to ask our leadership to participate in a panel
discussion where you will be able to ask questions, gain clarity, better understand expectations, and most
important, continue to build key relationships. So please come and join us in this new approach to
building and sustaining performance knowledge!
