Nursing Job Shadow Day Program

Upstate Medical University and Upstate University Hospital at Community General are pleased to offer individuals that are interested in a Nursing Career a dynamic clinical experience.

The dates for the Upstate University Hospital 2011-2012 sessions are:

Candidates are accepted on a first come first serve basis. The program can only accept 30 candidates and so if you are not selected, please feel free to register for another upcoming date.

Through this program, you will be paired one-to-one with a nursing professional in one of the following areas of specialty:

Upstate Medical University Nursing Areas:

  • Ambulatory Surgery & Procedures - Outpatient Procedures
  • Cardiovascular Services - Heart and Blood Vessels Conditions
  • Emergency Services
  • Medicine Services - Kidney and Lung Related Conditions
  • Neuroscience Services - Brain and Spinal Cord Conditions
  • Orthopedics - Bone Related Conditions
  • Pediatrics Services - Infant & Child Related Conditions
  • Peri-Operative Services - before, during and after surgery.
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation

Participants will interact with the professionals as they perform their normal daily activities. After the job shadowing, participants will attend an afternoon reception to share their experiences and meet Upstate faculty and students.

Upstate University Hospital at Community General Nursing Areas:

  • Acute Rehabilitation - Short term helping patient achieve independence
  • Inpatient Psychiatric - Mental Disorders
  • Emergency Services
  • Intensive Care - Intense, constant attention health related issues
  • Family Birth Center - Wellness model of pregnancy and birth
  • Medical & Surgical Care - Medical conditions and conditions that require surgery
  • Orthopedics - Bone Related Conditions
