CHOICES Pediatric Palliative Care Program
CHOICES Pediatric Palliative Care Program which strives in \"Helping Families Put the Pieces Together\" for families and children diagnosed with a potentially life threatening condition. CHOICES is an acronym for Courage, Hope, Insight, Compass, Empathy, Support. This consultative program is available to see patients who are currently in the hospital, in the office (outpatient basis) and also selected home visits. The CHOICES team works in conjunction with the child's primary care team. The director, Dr. Irene Cherrick, MD is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine and is also board certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. She is assisted by Carol Dawson, NP clinically. There is a support framework and availability to multiple disciplines including but not limited to child life, spiritual care, social work as well as a parent representative. This program also offers consultations for couples whose baby has been diagnosed prenatally with a potentially life threatening disorder and has provided prenatal support/counseling/ and facilitated decision making to care of the newborn while hospitalized and then upon discharge to home.
