Upstate supports you in quitting. Resources are available for all patients, visitors, employees and members of our community.

Meet the Smoking Cessation Program experts
Cynthia Cary Woods
Cynthia is certified by the Mayo Clinic as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist. She is a registered respiratory therapist and a registered pulmonary function technician, and is Upstate’s smoking cessation coordinator. She has been employed by Upstate for 28 years. She provides work site programming for employers who would like to support their employees as they attempt to quit their tobacco use, and she also coordinates the FREE community wide classes sponsored by the Advocates of Upstate.
Theresa is a Mayo Clinic trained certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and a Registered Respiratory Therapist for Upstate’s Cancer Center. She helps Upstate employees and anyone with an Upstate ID, at all Upstate locations become tobacco-FREE with counseling and free nicotine patches, gum and/or lozenges. Theresa holds a Quit Smoking Café the first Thursday of each month in the Cancer Center Atrium from 1pm to 3pm. All Cancer Center patients, their families and employees are welcome. Do you feel like you’ve tried everything to quit and nothing is working? Try something new and drop by the Quit Smoking Café. Light refreshments will be served. Suzanne, a Mayo Clinic Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist, has helped people with behavior changes for a healthier lifestyle for more than 30 years. Suzanne holds a Master of Science in Health Education and is a Certified Personal Trainer, Behavior Specialist, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Wellness Practitioner and Certified Worksite Wellness Program Director. At Upstate, Suzanne’s primary role is to coordinate the Pathway to Wellness program. Suzanne is passionate about her job and wants to help persons who are ready to quit smoking be successful. Suzanne works with Upstate employees and the community.
