The Process

To ensure a way in which counties could compare the health of their residents with that of neighboring counties, the same data was collected for all counties for agreed upon health measures. The focus areas mirror those of Healthy People 2010, a federal initiative that seeks to increase quality of life and eliminate health discrepancies by the year 2010.

The data collection phase of the RHA project took place during the summer and fall months of 2004. This data helped the counties in the completion of their own community health assessment reports. This data also will also serve as a springboard for phase two of the project, assessing health priorities and developing a plan of action for the eight-county region. This phase, which is currently in progress, will involve region-wide stakeholders, recognizing that improving the health of CNY residents is a community wide responsibility.

The culmination of these efforts will aid in enhancing and sustaining a long-term partnership among the counties. This is a partnership that will continually strive to improve the health of the very citizens it serves.
