Medical Speak Word of the Week— LAPAROSCOPIC

Definition: Laparoscopic surgery is a surgical technique in which operations are performed through small incisions as compared to larger incisions needed in traditional surgical procedures. Flu Season and Schools - Fast Flu Facts

While we all need to pay attention to the spread of influenza and have our flu shots when recommended, it's not generally a life]threatening condition. Well this week, in Syracuse, we were reminded that a case of the flu can have grave consequences.

In the midst of what's been called - so far - a mild flu season, a 10-year-old local boy died from complications of Influenza A. It is the first flu-related death of child in New York State this season.

Our condolences to the family of this special young man, who was reported to have chronic health problems.
