University Hospital facilitated support groups meet at HealthLink, University Hospital or other sites of SUNY Upstate Medical University.

• Miracle Motorcycle Ride & BBQ
  5/20 All day: Events
  A 60 mile scenic ride around Onondaga and Madison counties and back to the Spinning Wheel Restaurant for a chicken BBQ and music. Rain or shine!

• Paige's Butterfly Run
  6/2 9:00am: Events
  A walk/run in honor of Paige Yeomans Arnold, to benefit pediatric cancer. Activities for the entire family include 5K USATF certified run, 3K fun run/walk, caterpillar crawl, centipede division, followed by awards ceremony.

  25th Annual Upstate Open Golf Tournament, supporting the new Upstate Cancer Center. Pre-registration is required.

• Impact of Faith and Religion on Patients & Health Providers

  This lecture will focus on how to take a social history that includes a faith history, identify the faith lens through a person views their disease, bridge the cultural divide between and among the health providers and the patient when there is a difference in faith, and how the health provider can understand if his or her faith is helping or inhibiting the eventual outcome.

• Sarah House Fundraiser "Down Home Hospitality"

  A 5K walk and run to benefit the American Heart Association. Sign up with any Team Captain by March 17th to join Team Upstate. Donate a minimum of $30 ($15 for students) to receive an Upstate team shirt.

• LGBTQ Awareness - Health Care and Inclusion

  Members of the Greater Syracuse LGBTQ community, representing a wide diversity in sexual and gender identity, will discuss their experiences as patients in health care settings and how their sexuality or gender identity has factored into their care. By sharing their experiences, we hope that the panel will be able to help shed some light on some of the nuances and subtle considerations that make the difference for a respectful and comfortable interaction for both patient and provider.

  Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities published by aha! process and written by authors Dr. Ruby K. Payne, Phil DeVol and Terrie Derrusie-Smith, provides a framework to address the challenges of supporting those in poverty.
  
  This introduction will touch on basic elements of understanding and addressing the challenges of poverty within the context of health and patient care.
