Research
My laboratory studies immunopathogenesis, focusing on understanding how innate immune function influences viral pathogenesis, pregnancy complications, and inflammation. Research themes include:
- The influence of magnesium on inflammation
- CD4 expression on NK cells
- NK cell/ dendritic cell interactions
- Immunologic determinants of perinatal HIV transmission
- Immune function influences preterm parturition
Ongoing investigations elucidating immunopathogenic mechanisms of HIV infection and disease progression are complemented by related projects delineating the influence of maternal and neonatal immune activation and function on preterm parturition and investigating how magnesium regulates immune function.
