Residency Programs at Upstate
How to Apply
Upstate Medical University participates in the National Resident Matching Program, Inc. and all appointments are made subject to the provisions of that organization. Most programs select resident applicants on the basis of interviews and review of records. Applicants are encouraged to arrange interviews with faculty and housestaff by writing to the appropriate department. Interviews are by invitation only. Skype/FaceTime interviews are also by invitation only and do not guarantee an in-person interview.
Each residency appointment is renewed annually based upon an assessment of the resident's performance. The resident is appointed as a clinical assistant instructor, classified as a temporary employee and subject to the terms, rights and responsibilities of current negotiated agreements between the State of New York and the United University Professions.
All first year resident positions are for one year's duration beginning July 1. Some programs have required first year orientation programs that begin prior to July 1.
