Center Overview

The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) of SUNY Upstate Medical University is located in the Institute for Human Performance. It is dedicated to improving the human condition through a variety of research methods including Phase I-IV clinical trials, device studies, and investigator-initiated studies.

The interdisciplinary research teams provide patient care to promote
patient, investigator, and sponsor satisfaction.

Gastroenterology Research Faculty

Dr. Holtzapple Philip G. Holtzapple, MD, Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Gastroenterology Division and University Gastroenterology at the Philip G. Holtzapple Endoscopy Center is involved in clinical trials with patients who have Irritable Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Dr. Szyjkowski Ronald D. Szyjkowski, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Gastroenterology Division (Chief), is conducting a clinical trial for patients with pancreatitis undergoing ERCP and is participating in the HALO Patient Registry for Ablation of Barrett's Esophagus.
