Getting Around... |
Pediatric Cardiac SurgeryUniversity Hospital750 East Adams St. Phone: 315 464-5812 University Hospital has the only heart program for children in Central New York. Surgeon George Alfieris, MD, performs approximately 200 open-heart surgeries on children each year. A recent study showed that hospitals doing more than 100 congenital heart surgeries a year have significantly better survival rates than those that do fewer. Our doctors were among the first in the country to offer the Ross Valve Replacement procedure (switching the hearts left and right valves). For children with tachycardia (fast heart rhythms) who do not respond to medication, our doctors perform Radio Frequency Catheter Ablation, an alternative to open-heart surgery. |
