Pediatric Palliative Care, CHOICES Program, provides services via consultation to any child or family suffering from a life threatening illness and continues to work with the child's current medical team. This program also sees couples prenatally who are expecting infants with life threatening diseases.
Palliative Care involves assistance with decision making, goal setting, communication, providing support, coordination of care, and treatment of pain and symptom management along the entire course of disease. Pediatric Palliative Care is about living everyday to the fullest and goes beyond hospice and end of life care. Many patients served are struggling with ongoing medical problems but are not at end of life and continue to improve. Dr. Irene Cherrick is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care and directs this program which includes a team from many disciplines. This program sees patients in the hospital, outpatient setting and in the community, including home visits.
