About Us

Since 1990, University Hospital has served as Central New York’s Pediatric Designated AIDS Center.  In that time, nearly 500 children from 17 counties have been evaluated and/or treated for HIV. In addition, their families have benefited from specialized counseling and training designed to help them and their children cope with the disease, its complications and its implications.

The Center team works to help our young patients live as normal a life as possible while coping with a chronic illness. Events such as Family Zoo Day at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, our annual holiday party at the Campus Activities Buidling (CAB) and involvement in summer camp at the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne, NY assists families and patients in creating a strong social support network.

The Pediatric Designated AIDS Center received a Center of Excellence designation from the New York State Department of Health Aids Institute for its patient care services and its dedication to providing psychosocial and emotional support for HIV patients and their families.
