Pharmacy Services

The saying "children are not just small adults" is certainly true when it comes to the prescribing and administration of medications to children. Every dose of medication prescribed to a child must involve consideration of the patient's size (generally weight). Additionally, developmental body changes throughout childhood (especially kidney and liver function) often impact the decision of proper drug and/or dosage selection for a pediatric patient. "Kid-friendly" dosage forms are uncommon, so special consideration of medication or dosage form selection also warrants close attention by hospital personnel. Pediatric pharmacists have extensive experience and special training in making sure that medications used to treat hospitalized children are appropriate in all respects.
