Dr. Cantor attended Medical School at the SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY. He completed residency training at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse in Pediatrics and did a fellowship in Toxicology at the New York Poison Control Center, New York, NY. Dr. Cantor has published a textbook entitled, Handbook of Pediatric Emergency Medicine for the American College of Emergency Physicians. In addition, he is the Co-Editor of a newly released Textbook entitled, "Neonatal Emergencies in the Emergency Department".

Dr. Cantor joined the Medical University in 1981 as assistant professor of emergency medicine and pediatrics. Throughout the years, he has assumed leadership roles on numerous academic committees at the Medical University. He is the Director of the Fellowship Program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. 

Dr. Cantor"s involvement in the Medical University"s affairs has resulted in several awards and recognition, including the SUNY Upstate Medical University President"s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1994 and the 1994 'Pediatric Attending of the Year' award from the Department of Pediatrics House Staff. Nationally, he received the "Speaker of the Year"award from the American College of Emergency Physicians in 1994. In 2002 he received the National Award for Contibutions in Education from the American College of Emergency Physicians.He served as chair of the American College of Emergency Medicine"s Committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine from 1993 to 1995; and was the official liaison, American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
