Upstate Medical University participates in the National Resident Matching Program, Inc External link. All appointments are made subject to the provisions of that organization. We select resident applicants on the basis of interviews and review of records. Each residency appointment is renewed annually based upon an assessment of the resident's performance. The resident is appointed as a clinical assistant instructor, classified as a temporary employee and subject to the terms, rights and responsibilities of current negotiated agreements between the State of New York and the United University Professions.

For all applicants, interviews are essential, and we encourage visits between November and January. Applicants are encouraged to arrange interviews with faculty and house staff by contacting us. Every effort should be made to ensure than an application is complete prior to scheduling an interview.
