Weekly Activities	Lectures; seminars and conferences; inpatient and outpatient contacts; night call.
Elective Description	This elective is available at selected Family Practice Residency Programs in New York State. Electives completed at out-of-state residency programs will be considered extramural. While specific activities may vary somewhat from site to site, the educational intent at all sites is to provide exposure to continuity of care and office based practice and to improve knowledge, skills and attitudes related to comprehensive family oriented medical care. Training in ambulatory care is provided through residency model outpatient units where consultation services of family practitioners, internists, surgeons, pediatricians, psychiatrists, and psychologists are available. In-hospital care is typically provided on medical, surgical, pediatric, and obstetrical/gynecological services. Supervision of medical students is provided by Family Medicine faculty and residents.
Readings	Specific textbooks are not required. Students should read about the patients they encounter.
Criteria for Evaluation of Performance	Resident and preceptor evaluations of history and physical exam skills, clinical problem-solving, professional demeanor, rapport with patients, fund of medical knowledge, interest in learning.
