New York Communities and Preceptors— Community of Ogdensburg


Ogdensburg is a city of almost 14,000 located directly on the St. Lawrence River on the northern border of New York. Driving time from Syracuse is about 2 _ hours. Ottawa, the capital of Canada, is a one hour drive north and Montreal is about 2 hours to the northeast. Ogdensburg's proximity to the Thousand Islands, Adirondack Park and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec offer numerous recreational and cultural options. Local attractions of note include the Remington Art Museum, which houses the major collection of Frederic Remington works in the world, and the Eisenhower locks in Massena, which allows access to and from the Great lakes by ocean going vessels.

The primary preceptor for this site is Dr. David Dunn, a board certified family practitioner with an office in the physician’s office building attached to Hepburm Hospital. Dr. Dunn is a graduate of Albany Medical College and completed his residency in family practice at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse.

Hepburn Medical Center is a private, not-for-profit, 149-bed community hospital and regional referral center. Hepburn has an active medical staff of more than 40 physicians representing over 20 specialties. Hepburn now includes 89 acute care beds, a 29-bed Residential Health Care Facility and a 28-bed mental health center. Regional and county-wide services include radiation and medical oncology provided by the Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center, perinatal care provided by the St. Lawrence Maternal Care Center, and dialysis treatment provided by the Agarwal Renal Center, as well as angiography, and other state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technologies.
