New York Communities and Preceptors—Community of Glens Falls
The City of Glens Falls, located about 50 miles north of Albany and 10 miles south of the lower end of Lake George. The papermaking industry and related businesses provide employment for a large number of residents in and around the Glens Falls area. The Glens Falls region is also a major tourist area located in the foothills of the Adirondack Park with numerous lakes and close proximity to major ski areas in both New York and Vermont. To the south, Saratoga Springs is the home of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), which serves as the summer home of the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

The primary preceptor for this site is Dr. William Tedesco, with assistance from his partners. One of these is Dr. Robert Reeves, who completed the RMED program in 1992. Dr. Tedesco has been a family practitioner in Glens Falls since 1966. He is a graduate of SUNY Upstate Medical University, completed an internship at the University of Virginia and his residency at Upstate Medical University. Over the years he has hosted numerous medical students for short-term rotations from both Albany Medical Center and Upstate. 2001 represents the first year that Glens Falls has participated in the RMED program. |
Glens Falls Hospital is the major provider of both acute and primary care services in the five county area surrounding the city. It is also the largest employer in the area, employing approximately 2000 people. The hospital provides a comprehensive continuum of inpatient services, which include med/surg, intensive care, coronary care, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, and psychiatric care. Outpatient services include outpatient surgery, emergency care center, cardiac cath, an integratedcancer treatment program, chronic dialysis maintenance and training, and behavioral health services, including outpatient substance abuse rehab. |
