Community of Geneva-Waterloo
Geneva, located about a one hour drive directly west of Syracuse on the northern tip of Seneca Lake. A city of around 14,000 people it is the home of Hobart and William Smith College as well as the original home of the Geneva Medical College, which is the forerunner of Upstate Medical University. The region is known for its vineyards and wineries, which surround many of the Finger Lakes. The cities of Ithaca and Rochester are only about an hour to the south and west, respectivly.

The primary preceptor for this site is Dr. Timothy Ryan whose office is in Waterloo, located on Route 20 about 45 miles west of Syracuse and less than 10 miles east of Geneva. |
Geneva General Hospital, located within the City of Geneva, has 166 acute care beds with med/surg, ICU, OB/GYN, outpatient services, emergency room, laboratory, radiology and rehab services, a nursing school and a medical arts building. |
Preceptor Profile: Drs. Tim Ryan and Andrew Reese
Drs. Ryan and Reese practice in the town of Seneca Falls. They take care of a mixed group of adult, pediatric and geriatric patients. Dr. Ryan has established an extensive practice utilizing a variety of allied health professions, including physician assistants, a nurse practitioner, a full time nutritionist, nurses, medical technicians, laboratory / x-ray personnel and other administrative personnel. He is joined in the practice by Dr. Andrew Reese, who was placed in this site as an RMED student in 1996. Dr. Ryan runs a laboratory and mammography unit, a women's health center, nutritional counseling, and offers occupational and preventive medicine as well. He is the Chief Medical Officer of the county Health Department, has developed an alcohol detox unit at the hospital and offers a continuing medical education curriculum to physicians and other health care workers in the community. Dr. Ryan is a 1979 graduate of the Family Practice Residency Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse and he is also a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School where he participated in the Rural Physician Associate Program, after which the RMED program is modeled. |
