Canton/Potsdam was one of the first two communities to start the RMED educational network in 1989. Two students may be place in this community. Preceptors for this location may include Drs. John Dewar, Sandra McCloy, Jon Kay and Dan Palmateer, who work together in a group practice located in Canton, and Dr. Richard Moose, a former RMED student, whose office is in Potsdam. All preceptors are currently board certified in Family Practice and Dr. Kay is also board certified in Pediatrics. All preceptors are experienced clinical teachers and hold clinical faculty appointments at Upstate Medical University. Preceptors for all specialty rotations are located in the community.
Preceptors all admit to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, an 85 bed facility located in Potsdam and containing Medical/Surgical, CCU, OB/GYN and Alcohol Detox services. It also operates a long-term care facility. The medical staff is composed of 36 physicians, most of whom are board certified in their specialty. Most specialties are represented.
