Eugene Bailey, MD R. Eugene Bailey, MD, FAAFP
Residency Program Director

R. Eugene Bailey, MD, FAAFP is an Associate Professor and Board-certified in Family Medicine.

Dr. Bailey practices full scope family medicine including obstetrics and sees patients at our Community Campus site. Dr. Bailey has clinical interests in family-centered maternity care, travels to Central America yearly for global health, is Team Physician for the Syracuse Crunch, AHL affiliate to the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning and has a special interest in evidence-based medicine.

Dr. Bailey is currently the Program Director for the Family Medicine residency program and precepts both residents and medical students. He is guest lecturer for the LeMoyne Physician Assistant program, Advisory faculty for ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics), and adjunct faculty for the MCEF (Medical Care for the Entire Family) program, Keiju Medical Center, Nanao, Japan.

Dr. Bailey graduated medical school from Upstate Medical University and did his residency at University of Rochester Family Medicine Residency program, Rochester, New York.


Joseph Cincotta, MDJoseph Cincotta, MD

Joseph Cincotta, MD is an Assistant Professor and board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Cincotta practices full scope family medicine, treating patients of all ages and sees patients at our Upstate Health Care Center site. Dr. Cincotta is interested in the full scope of family medicine, including preventive, chronic and acute care for all age groups, particularly the elderly. Dr. Cincotta also currently precepts third year medical students in our clinical sites and teaches medical case studies in the Foundations of Reasoning in Medicine course. Dr. Cincotta graduated medical school from Upstate Medical University and did his residency at Harrisburg Hospital Family Practice Residency.


Harminder Grewal, MDHarminder Grewal, MD

Dr. Grewal is the Women's Health Medical Director and Whole Health Clinical Director at Syracuse VA Medical Center.

She has clinical experience and training in Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics in USA, India and UK. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine (ABFM) and Integrative Medicine (ABIHM and ABoIM). She has a Diploma in Gynecology and Obstetrics from the University of Delhi, India. She also has Green Belt Certification in Lean Management. She has been instrumental in developing the new Family Medicine Residency Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University. She has authored and received three innovation grants from VA Central Office in Women’s Health. Her research interests are in Women’s Health, Health Care Disparities and Whole Health Partnership.

Dr. Grewal also currently precepts third year Internal Medicine residents and medical students at different levels of training in Syracuse VA Medical Center.

Dr. Grewal graduated medical school from the University of Delhi, India and did her residency at the Ohio State University Medical Center Department of Family Medicine Residency Program in Columbus, Ohio.


Heather Finn, MDHeather Finn, MD
Assistant Professor

Dr. Finn is Board-certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Finn practices full spectrum outpatient Family Medicine, excluding obstetrics, treating patients of all ages and sees patients at our Community Campus. She is particularly interested in child health, women's health, and patient-centered chronic disease management and prevention. She has a special interest in partnering with those patients who are most vulnerable in our community to find creative solutions to their barriers to health.  Dr. Finn also currently precepts third year medical students in our clinical sites and teaches in the recurring lecture series for the Family Medicine clerkship students. In addition, she serves as the Family Medicine Specialty Advisor for the medical university.

Dr. Finn graduated from SUNY Upstate Medical University and did her training at Jefferson Family and Community Medicine residency in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.


James Greenwald, MDJames, Greenwald, MD

Dr. Greenwald is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Greenwald treats patients of all ages and sees patients at our Community Campus site. His hospital practice is limited to newborn care.  Dr. Greenwald clinical interests include musculoskeletal problems and managing chronic conditions. Dr. Greenwald currently precepts third year medical students in his office practice and teaches first year students as Co-Director for the Musculoskeletal course

Dr. Greenwald graduated medical school from SUNY Upstate Medical Center College of Medicine in Syracuse, New York and did his residency at University of Minnesota Department of Family Practice and Community Health, Fairview and St. Mary’s Hospitals, Minnesota.

Igor Kraev, MD is an Assistant Professor and board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Kraev practices full scope family medicine, treating patients of all ages and sees patients at our Community Campus site. Dr. Kraev has particular clinical interests in integrative medicine and wellness. Dr. Kraev also currently precepts third year medical students in our clinical sites and teaches teach second year medical students clinical skill in our Practice of Medicine courses Dr. Kraev graduated medical school from Moscow University of Medicine and Dentistry and did his residency at St. Clare’s Hospital Family Practice Residency Program.


Thomas Laclair , MD

Assistant Professor

Dr. LaClair is board certified in Family Medicine.  He has been in the private practice of family medicine with FamilyCare Medical Group in the Fairmount/Camillus area for the past 38 years. Along the way, he received an MBA degree from Lemoyne College in 2000. Most recently, he continues part-time in private practice and serves as Family Medicine Clerkship Director at the Department of Family Medicine.

Dr. Laclair graduated medical school from SUNY Upstate Medical Center College of Medicine in Syracuse, New York and did his residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York.

Susan Levinsohn, MD is an Assistant Professor and board certified in Family Medicine and board eligible in Integrative Medicine. Dr. Levinsohn practices full scope family medicine, treating patients of all ages and sees patients at our Community Campus site. Dr. Levinsohn has particular clinical interests in integrative medicine including: wellness, motivational interviewing, nutrition, mind-body practices and is certified in medical acupuncture. Dr. Levinsohn also currently precepts medical students in our clinical sites and teaches first year medical students clinical skill in our Practice of Medicine course. Dr. Levinsohn graduated medical school from Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and did her residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center; completed her fellowship at the University of Michigan and completed her acupuncture training at McMaster University.

Dr. Nanavati is board certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine.  Dr. Nanavati practices full scope family medicine, treating patients of all ages and sees patients at our Upstate Health Care Center (UHCC) site.  Dr. Nanavati has particularly clinical interests in integrative medicine, wellness and disease prevention.  Dr. Nanavati also currently precepts third year medical students in our clinical sites and teaches first year medical students clinical skills in our Practice of Medicine courses.

Dr. Nanavati graduated medical school from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Bay Shore, New York and did his residency at Lafayette Family Medicine, Lafeyette, New York.


Carrie Roseamelia, PhDCarrie Roseamelia, PhD

Director, Rural Medical Scholars Program

Dr. Roseamelia graduated from the Maxwell School in the Department of Sociology at Syracuse University. The Rural Medical Scholars Program is administered from the Department of Family Medicine and College of Medicine. The goal of the program is to identify, recruit, and nurture medical students interested in future rural or small town practice. The program offers four years of elective courses focusing on rural medicine, including community-based, clinical training opportunities.  Her professional interests focus on building engaging learning activities that build on near-to-peer teaching, including a mentorship project whereby medical students train high school students using a clinical case. Dr. Roseamelia volunteers on the Admissions Committee and various curriculum committees for the College of Medicine.


Clyde Satterly, MDClyde Satterly, MD, MBA

Dr. Satterly is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Satterly practices full scope family medicine, treating patients of all ages and sees patients at our Upstate Health Care Center (UHCC) site. Dr. Satterly has particularly clinical interests in diabetes, wellness and managing chronic conditions. Dr. Satterly also currently precepts third year medical students in our clinical sites.

Dr. Satterly graduated medical school from Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and did his residency at St. Joseph’s Family Practice, St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, Syracuse, New York.


Spiro Tzetzis, MD
Assistant Professor

Dr. Tzetzis is board certified in Family Medicine and is currently an attending physician at the Syracuse VA Medical. He is an instructor with the Practice of Medicine Course at SUNY Upstate Medical University and precepts with Internal Medicine residents and third year medical students.  He was in private practice in Syracuse for 15 years and then Medical Director of Student Health Services at Syracuse University before joining the Syracuse VA in 2015

Dr. Tzetzis received his MD from The Chicago Medical School/Rosalind Franklin University and his residency training in Family Medicine from St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse.
