Anthony Andrews, MD, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, acts as Chief of the Retina Division and an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at SUNY Upstate Medical University Center for Vision Care and Center for Retina Care.
Prior to joining SUNY Upstate, Dr. Andrews was Chief of the Retina Service at SUNY Downstate and Director of SUNY Downstate's Retinal-Vascular Center.
Dr. Andrews graduated magna cum laude from Yale University, earning both bachelor's and master's degrees in molecular biochemistry and biophysics. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he was named a Penn Medical Scholar. After an ophthalmology residency at Penn State where he served as co-chief resident his final year, he completed a two-year medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Schepens Retina Associates.
Dr. Andrews has published several retina papers including a major article on retina surgery for retinopathy of prematurity. He is currently involved in the Center for Vision Research, assisting in multiple studies.
Dr. Andrews grew up in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and his wife, Donna, grew up some 40 miles from Syracuse in New Berlin, New York. Their son, Nicholas, enjoys living so close to his grandmother!
Dr. Andrews follows the mission statement for the Center for Retina Care and strives to provide personal care, taking in mind the unique needs of the individual, and working with the person as a team to give the best possible result.
