Dr. Debora B. Farber has earned international distinction with her pioneering research on the molecular mechanisms causing inherited retinal degenerations in animals and humans.
Equally noteworthy is the work that her laboratory has carried out on the isolation characterization, and regulation of expression of novel genes encoding enzymes and proteins that play a key role in vision. Mutations in several of these genes were shown by Dr. Farber to be responsible for different forms of retinitis pigmentosa and cone dystrophies.
