President’s Unveiling of Our Shared Values

Please mark your calendar for the President’s unveiling of SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Values. A town-hall meeting open to everyone in the Upstate community, will be held on Wednesday, May 21 from 2 – 3 p.m. in the Weiskotten Hall Medical Alumni Auditorium.

The University-wide Shared Values initiative sprang from the recommendations of the Engaging Excellence Teams. Many people suggested that we create a set of shared values to build on the foundation of our mission for education, research, and patient care — which spans our entire university. Cost Savings—Your Suggestions at work....

4/ 7/2008

Suggestion:
Many times in the areas that I work I see products going to waste because they are not used in time. For example, if a doctor has us bring 4 sizes of a certain product s/he needs to a bedside, s/he may only need one and the others are left unused. If the items are not returned promptly, they expire and create wasted monies. Why not put a bin in our clean rooms to place items from distribution or equipment to return that have not been used to save money? Thanks for your time.

Response:
Thank you for your excellent suggestion. Beginning April 4th, there will be "Return To Distribution" bins in all the Omnicell clean rooms throughout the house. Once these bins are in place and we have a process for processing return goods, the Distribution Department will begin communicating the process to the nursing staff and offer training where appropriate. Not all items are eligible for return and Distribution will communicate what is and what isn’t such that the return process works as efficiently as possible.

Weiskotten Garden Society

4/ 1/2008

From a suggestion submitted through the Engaging Excellence website, the university is sponsoring a garden design contest, and supporting the establishment of a "The Weiskotten Garden Society," (which will function as an independent group). The Weiskotten Garden Society is looking for members who love to garden and would like to add their talents to creating gardens in the Weiskotten Hall courtyard and beyond.

As our inaugural event, we are sponsoring a design contest for the 3 planter boxes next to the front door of Weiskotten Hall. Everyone is encouraged to join and/or enter the contest.
