Phase I—Environmental Scan
September - December 2006
Consultants from the Butler/Helm Group interviewed nearly 400 employees for an "environmental scan"—a survey of Upstate processes and procedures that have the greatest impact on internal audiences (students, faculty, researchers and staff) and external audiences (patients, area hospitals, and the Syracuse and regional communities.)
The scan identified processes that clearly helped Upstate's mission, as well as those that impeded achievement of goals and objectives.
The resulting report was an important tool for the Presidential Select Task Teams, which would use the environmental scan to drill deeper to examine internal and external processes.
