No community is exempt from emergencies.
As much as we dislike thinking about the potential for natural, technological, human-related disasters, or disasters involving hazardous material, these events do occur. The best way to minimize the effects of such events is to discuss the potential vulnerabilities that exist in an organization, while instituting strategies that include the components of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Department of Emergency Management at Upstate University Hospital specializes in this type of "what if" thinking. Our mission is to give hospital personnel the support system they need to continue to provide exemplary care to our patients, even in disaster situations. In order to offer this critical response, the department maintains an extensive Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan that addresses an "All Hazards" approach to disaster preparedness, and an Emergency Management team which continually reviews and improves the program.
Upstate University Hospital's mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve through education, biomedical research and health care. Providing the highest standard of care and ensuring the health and safety of our patients is the ultimate goal of every person in every department of our hospital. Though a continuous planning approach which includes mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, the Emergency Management program at University Hospital strives to continuously improve the hospital's response to all types of disasters while supporting Upstate's mission in times of crisis.
We invite you to explore our website to learn more about our program.
