Health Connections

Health Connections is part of University's Hospital Patient Access Services and provides confidential
telephone nursing services to the public, including 24 hour triage of adult and pediatric patients with
health complaints. Health Connections New York State registered nurses also provide extensive and customized
general health information by mail, internet, or telephone and can provide patients with physician or service
referrals. Support services provided by Health Connections to institutional clinical investigators include
telephone enrollment and follow-up of research subjects.
Peter J. Mariani, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, is Medical Director for

Paramedic Flight Team
In 1982 Upstate Medical University joined services with the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department to create the Upstate Medical University Scene Medevac Team. This dual agency effort combined the roles of a Level 1 Trauma Center, with the use of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Air-1 helicopter. The mission of the Medevac Team is to provide immediate emergency medical care and transport to an appropriate medical facility for the critically injured or acutely ill patient.

Upstate NY Poison Center
Established in 1957 as the CNYPCC, the Upstate New York Poison Center assists the medical community and general public with poison emergencies by providing state of the art management expertise.
Combining compassionate patient care with education, research and community outreach, the staff of the UNYPC confirms its commitment to excellence through a dedication to wellness.
The Center, designated a NYS Regional Poison Center in 1987, and accredited nationally as a Certified Poison Control Center in 1996, publishes a quarterly health care professional newsletter, as well as a poison prevention newsletter of interest to the general public.
