The Emergency Department at University serves 51,000 patients annually. Approximately 19,000 of these are pediatric patients who are treated in the region's only Pediatric Emergency Department. Faculty from the Department of Emergency Medicine provide Attending coverage for both the adult and pediatric emergency departments. All faculty are board certified/eligible in Emergency Medicine. Additionally, the pediatric ED attendings have special training in pediatric emergency medicine. Furthermore, fellows in the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship provide a superb supplement to the regular Pediatric ED faculty.
Resident's in each of residency training receive a majority of their ED exposure and training in the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments. In addition, PGY-I residents complete off-service rotations in cardiology, EMS, and orthopedics; PGY-II residents complete MICU and Tox rotations; and PGY-III residents complete their PICU rotation at University. Please see the
Curriculum page for more details regarding clinical rotations.
