 EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship
The EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical University offers a wide range of clinical, research and administrative opportunities. Our fellowship includes both ground and air medical transport training with a variety of different agencies. The University operates an Air Medical program in cooperation with the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department. Four of our faculty members have completed EMS Fellowship training and the CNY Regional Medical Director is also a member of the faculty. The faculty have varying areas of focus allowing the fellows to explore various facets of out of hospital care.
The SUNY Upstate EMS Physician Response Program will provide the fellows with the opportunity to interact with multiple Fire and EMS agencies. The fellows will work directly with SUNY Upstate faculty to prepare for challenging prehospital scenarios, including training to provide important field surgical techniques.
Unique elective opportunities exist for those who are interested. We offer an optional international component through our department's missions in several locations across the globe, including St. Lucia, China, India and Australia. Some of our special event / mass gathering sites include the New York State Fair, Syracuse University Carrier Dome and the K-Rockathon. Our EMSTAT Center houses a state of the art simulation center and our own paramedic training program. The fellows are given a University appointment as Clinical Instructor of Emergency Medicine at the Dean's discretion and are provided excellent benefits.
The fellows are provided support staff to enable them to reach their administrative, clinical and research goals.
