There is sufficient flexibility in the EMS schedule to allow the rotation to be tailored to the resident's previous EMS experience as well as fostering any particular interests the resident may have within EMS. The resident will gain experience with private for-profit, non-profit volunteer, and fire based systems. While not required, air medical experience is also available. During the year, based on interest and availability, there are opportunities to explore tactical, wilderness, and mass gathering EMS. For those that do not have previous EMS experience this rotation allows these residents to develop a baseline understanding of prehospital care and how it relates to the practice of Emergency Medicine. For those that come to us with previous EMS experience, this rotation allows them to gain insight into how the system works in our region, to explore the role of the physician in the field, and to discover specialty areas of EMS.
