Dr. Prasad graduated from Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, India. He completed his internship at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Chicago, Illinois and surgery residency at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Chicago and at Metro-6 University of Illinois Program. He has been an academic emergency physician since 1983, initially at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse and later at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. He received several teaching awards from the residents while at East Carolina University.
He served as the President of the NC College of Emergency Physicians. He has also chaired and served in several committees nationally. His main research interests include EMS, resident education, and trauma management. He has published several articles in peer reviewed journals and has authored several text book chapters.
