Q. How long is my ACLS or PALS card good for?

A. ACLS & PALS Provider cards are valid for two years.

Q. How do I know If I should take a Provider or Refresher Course?

A. Anyone who has never taken an ACLS or PALS course would be required to take the two-day Provider course or if you have taken a provider course but your card has expired you would be required to take the two-day course. If your ACLS or PALS card is current, you should take a refresher class prior to the recommended renewal date as indicated on your card.

Q. What is the difference between a PALS class and an APLS class?

A. The APLS course is geared to the physician level, however, other health professionals may benefit from taking the course such as nurses, paramedics, dentists and respiratory therapists. This course is sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Emergency Physicians. The PALS course is intended for healthcare providers who are responsible for the well-being of infants and children including pediatricians, house staff, emergency physicians, family physicians, nurses, paramedical personnel, respiratory therapists, and others. The American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics sponsor this course.

Q. Who will teach the classes?

A. American Heart Association (AHA) certified ACLS & PALS Instructors, who are experienced emergency or critical care clinicians, RNs, PAs, and other health care professionals.

Q. Where are the classes held?

A. ACLS, PALS, PEPP and APLS classes are held at SUNY Upstate Medical University's EM-STAT Center located at 550 E. Genesee Street. Syracuse, New York. Conveniently located to downtown and University Hospital.
