Core Facility for DNA Sequencing

DNA Sequencing

The SUNY Upstate Medical University has established a Core Facility for DNA Sequencing as a service for our research investigators. Located in Room 4840 on the 4th floor of University Hospital, this facility now provides automated DNA sequencing of single stranded and double stranded DNA samples from purified plasmids and PCR products on a fee for service basis.

Samples are sequenced using BIG DYE Version 3.1 terminators from Applied Biosystems and are run on an ABI 3100 Genetic Analyzer. This automated sequencer uses a four color fluorescent dye system and typically provides from 500-900 bases of usable sequence data per reaction. One reaction consists of one DNA template (customer supplied primer or M13 forward, M13 reverse, T3, T7 Promoter, T7 Terminator, SP6 Prometer, or SP6 Upstream which we supply). Our typical turn-around time is one working day after receipt of the samples. Our facility is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for your convenience.
