Training

Mandatory Training

As required by the Committee for the Humane Use of Animals

It is mandatory for all personnel (including Principal Investigators) to have participated in a training session covering laws and regulations pertaining to animal care and use. All new employees with anticipated animal contact must be listed on the protocol and will be required to complete the mandatory training listed below. Training must be completed before any animal work begins.

All individuals who will be working with animals must complete the CITI Lab Animal Welfare "Working with the IACUC" and ALL species specific courses available at http://www.citiprogram.org.**

Each course is comprised of several modules.  Most modules include a short quiz you must take.  You must pass each course with a score of at least 80%.  The Certificate of Completion must be submitted with a Training Summary form to the CHUA Office, Room 4159, WH.

Manadatory Training Instructions

Log In, Register and Affiliate with SUNY Upstate Medical University

Log on to:  http://www.citiprogram.org/
REGISTER USERS:  Log in. 
NEW USERS:   Please click on  “New User”. 

  1. Affiliate with SUNY-Upstate Medical University. 
  2. Under “Participating Institutions:” – choose SUNY-Upstate Medical University from the scroll-down menu.  Then Click on “Submit” button.
  3. Select your username and password and “Submit” to enter the registration page. 
  4. Please complete the registration form.  “Submit” required information to complete registration process.

Verify Affiliation and Select Group - Lab Animal Welfare

  1. Verify that SUNY-Upstate Medical University is displayed on your Learner’s Menu. If it is not, please affiliate with Upstate.  If your affiliation is correct, skip to #3.

  2. Select Affiliate with another institution link and select “SUNY-Upstate Medical University” from the drop down menu.  

  3. You must add the Lab Animal Welfare courses by using the Add a course or update your learner group link. The SUNY Upstate Medical University course offerings page will be displayed.  To enroll in the Lab Animal Welfare courses please click on the link: “Question 3  is for Lab Animal Welfare ONLY”.        

  4. Question 3 The CITI Lab Animal Welfare Course will be displayed.   
         
  5. YOU MUST enroll in:  "Working with the IACUC", AND the appropriate species-specific courses FOR EACH SPECIES with which you will be working, as listed below. When you select a species, you will be automatically enrolled in all courses for that species.

Learner’s Menu & Course Grade Book

Your personalized Learner’s Menu will be displayed.  The Learner’s Menu is the main page for all of your coursework through CITI.  From this page you may add/delete courses, check the status of any of your courses, make changes to your account, view modules and print certificates.        To begin the modules for each course, simply select “Enter” in the Status column.  The next screen will display the course Grade Book, which lists all of the required modules for that course.  Each course is comprised of several modules.  Most modules include a short quiz you must take.  You must pass each course with a score of at least 80%.  Modules may be taken in one sitting or you may complete one, two or more modules and then log off.  When you log in and return to the course, you will begin with the next module from your previous session.

Course Completion & Completion Reports

You can print certificates from your Learner's Menu.  Find the fourth link located on the bottom left side of the page - Previous Coursework Completed - click there.  On the next page, you will see – Coursework Completed ... (your institution' name).  Next page the last two frames allows you to view Modules Completed or (next frame) Print Completion Report - click the task you are attempting.  The modules you see will be modules related to the completion report in the next frame.  If you would like to see all of the modules you have completed, arrow <-- back one page and choose the first bullet point - see a list of all modules.  Printing a hard copy of your certificate will prompt the system to send an email to your administrator.

CITI maintains the website and SUNY Upstate Medical University is a participating institution.
