Letter from the Dean of Student Affairs

Dear Upstate Medical University Students:

Welcome (or welcome back) to Upstate! This Student Handbook is intended to serve as an insider’s guide to life on campus, whether you are new to campus or returning as an “experienced” student. Please understand however, this is only one of many resources you can use to get the most from your Upstate experience.

You should be aware that as an Upstate student, you are encouraged to be a smart consumer, willing to invest the effort necessary to get what you want, to be aware of your resources, and to take responsibility for using them to manage your education while you are here. This handbook includes information about academic requirements, university policies and procedures, student and faculty rights and responsibilities, and will provide the detail you need to help resolve many issues you may encounter here.

Included in this publication are also the names and contact information of helpful people and offices, including the staff in the Division of Student Affairs. Located in the Campus Activities Building (CAB) and in Weiskotten Hall, Student Affairs staff members are willing and knowledgeable resources for you. Please, we’re here for you, don’t hesitate to contact us!

I wish you all the best for a productive and enjoyable academic year.

Sincerely,

Julie R. White, Ph.D.
Vice President of Educational Services and
Dean of Student Affairs
