"The Center for Civic Engagement has developed partnerships with non-profit organizations and agencies in Syracuse. In collaboration with them, the center has made a wide variety of projects and programs available for our student volunteers. Adults, teens and children of underserved and underrepresented populations in our city benefit from these initiatives. Our students conduct health, wellness, and nutrition classes in after-school programs, see patients at the Amaus and Refugee Clinics, assist in health fairs and screenings, and participate in special seasonal or holiday community service opportunities."

"The opportunities provided by The Center for Civic Engagement are mutually beneficial service learning projects for Upstate students and individuals in the Syracuse community. Students are able to learn about social justice issues pertinent to their future careers while helping to provide much needed medical and social support services to underprivileged individuals. It is amazing how many of our students gladly volunteer what little free time they have to improving the lives of others. Students often comment that the work they do in the community is an outlet for stress and a way to build camaraderie with fellow students -- all while doing something good for the community."
