Geriatric Interest Group
While our focus is geriatrics, many of our events wil be of interest to anyone looking to go into internal medicine or family medicine. We will be having lectures given by Upstate faculty on topics such as the metabolism of drugs in the elderly, the unique ways that disease presents itself in the older patient and how to speak to a person with dementia. For those who are interested we will be going to area nursing homes to hold group activities for the residents, everything from medical education to arts and crafts and music.
An important new volunteer opportunity is going to be launched in October called the ACE Team. Students will be helping inpatients whoare normally too frail or disoriented to be able to get out of their hospital beds on their own by getting them up and walking through the halls.
We hope you will join us for some or all of these activities, and we welcome suggestions for additional ones.
