Working at the invitation and under the direction of local leaders, volunteers help create a foundation for world peace through mutual international understanding. Their purpose is to maintain a genuine, sustained service partnership with the host community and provide volunteers a genuine opportunity to serve. Program Website: http://www.globalvolunteers.org/ecuador/ecuador_projects.asp Program Location: Quito, Ecuador Program Duration: Standard program is two weeks. One week programs are available. Start dates are available on Apr. 18, June 13, Aug. 8, and Oct. 17. Program Cost: Student fees range from $2,095 (one week) to $2,295 (two weeks) Program Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years of age. Program Description: More than 300,000 children in Ecuador have disabilities, and nearly a third of all abandoned children are disabled. Ecuador is an economically impoverished country and so the challenges that most people face are daunting. Help from volunteers is needed in several areas, including childcare for infants, toddlers and young children; caring for children with disabilities ages three to 17; health care including public health education, surgery and dental care; construction of a new child care facility and group homes; and physical labor such as landscaping, painting and masonry. Never doubt that you can change the life of a child in Ecuador. If you enjoy young kids or have experience working with disabled children, you can make a real difference by simply caring for the children of Calderon or Camp Hope. If you are a health care professional, you can use your skills either in a clinic or hospital setting or by providing physical checkups for the children. In addition, if you can wield a hammer, paintbrush or trowel, you can work along side Ecuadorian workers helping to construct new facilities for the children that are so greatly needed. Program Includes:

Your assistance has a tremendous impact on the individual kids, as well as their community and country. Volunteers are also need to provide public health education, child vaccinations and patient care. The United Nations, through the World Health Organization, advises that public health education is one of the most important prerequisites to good health. Program Description: One of the most important contributions you can make is to interact with the youngest residents: the toddlers and pre-schoolers who need you to hold and help them with their first steps, and play the games that allow their socialization and language skills to progress normally. Volunteer activities include arts and craft projects, outdoor recreation, reading and singing, and preparing for bedtime. You can also provide specialized care to special-needs kids, who often follow a daily physical therapy regimen. Classroom assistance activities include working in kindergarten classrooms on assigned writing and art projects with kindergartners. You can also teach English language skills to students in the fifth through 12th grades. Most students have had little English language exposure, but are eager to try in small groups. Any native English speaker can be of service on this project. You are not required to have professional classroom experience. For volunteers who like to roll up their sleeves to make a difference, several pressing labor projects have been identified for immediate attention. Assignments will be made in the areas of painting, carpentry, window and light installation, gardening and general building maintenance. Program Includes:
