They provide local support and resources for the duration of your trip, whether it’s a short stay of a few months or an extended trip of a whole year. CURRENT OPPORTUNITIESVolunteer Cambodia: Siem Reap8-12 week program for individuals interested in skill-based volunteer placements. Available year-round. $1,580 for 8 weeks; $1,750 for 12 weeks. The cost of the flight is not included in the program. You are responsible for your own travel arrangements to and from Siem Reap on the designated arrival dates. You will also need at least $100 per week in support funds. Program Eligibility: You must be aged 18+ and a US citizen (holding a US passport). You also need to be an enthusiastic, energetic, well motivated self-starter and able to live and work in an unfamiliar environment. Previous volunteer or overseas experience is preferred but not essential. Program Description: If you would like to be a volunteer on a short-term basis, Volunteer Cambodia offers you the chance to spend eight to twelve weeks working on a project in the town of Siem Reap. This is a unique opportunity for you to live in and experience Cambodia first-hand. You’ll also gain many personal benefits, valuable new skills to add to your résumé and feel a real sense of satisfaction at the end of your stay. BUNAC will liaise with Interweave, a local co-operator, to arrange your placement. The type of placement can vary depending on the skills of the volunteer and the needs of the community at the time of the placement. Placements are in or around the town of Siem Reap, last for eight to twelve weeks with a three day welcome orientation upon arrival, and are unpaid. Accommodation is included as part of the placement and is covered by the program costs. However, volunteers will be responsible for arranging their own meals. Accommodation is either in the volunteers' hostel or a local guest house. There are monthly arrival dates for the program. You may specify the month you wish to travel and once you are accepted on to the program, BUNAC provides you with the exact arrival date in the specified month. Program Includes:
4 week program for individuals interested in nursing, teaching or manual labor. Available year-round. $1,365. More Information...Program Website: http://www.bunac.org/usa/volunteerperu/ Program Location: In and around Lima, Peru Program Duration: Four weeks, start dates are available throughout the year Program Costs: For 2009, costs start at $1,365 for a four week placement. If you are interested in placements for other periods of time, please call BUNAC for further details. This covers administration in the US and overseas, placement expenses, transfer from the airport to the hostel, arrival orientation including accommodation, transport to and from the project, two meals per day six days per week and accommodation for the duration of your placement. You are also entitled to any necessary help and support from BUNAC’s partner organization. You must submit a money order or certified check for the initial payment of $440 with your 2009 application. You should send in the balance of the fee at Step 2 of the application process. Program Eligibility: You must be aged 18-35 at the time of travel, a student or recent graduate, and conversant in Spanish (your level of Spanish language skill will be assessed via written test). You also need to be enthusiastic, energetic and adaptable. Previous work abroad experience is preferable. Program Description: Volunteer Peru offers you the chance to work with other volunteers on a community development, health care or education project. Placements last for four to twelve weeks and are based in the capital, Lima. This is an ideal location for exploring the amazing sights of South America including the lost city of Machu Picchu, the Andes and the Inca Trail. All BUNAC volunteers are placed at Flores de Villa, a community development project located in San Juan de Miraflores on the outskirts of Lima. Many volunteers work at the nearby medical centre and the surrounding area. Its main objective is to improve the general health and well-being of the residents through local initiatives and information. There is a real sense of community spirit among the locals and the contingent of volunteers not just from BUNAC but also from Peru itself and several other countries. While there is a demand for volunteers with specific qualifications in nursing and teaching and those with IT experience, there are also openings for general assistants in the local schools and kindergartens and manual/unskilled work. It is your willingness to give your time and enthusiasm to your placement and your ability to work as a team and help make a difference that really counts. Accommodation is normally in a homestay, with a room in a local family home. You will either have your own room or share with one other volunteer. Two meals per day, six days per week are provided by the host family. Fees generally cover administration in the US and overseas, placement expenses, transfer from the airport to the hostel, arrival orientation including accommodation, transport to and from the project and food and accommodation for the duration of your placement. You are also entitled to any necessary help and support from BUNAC’s partner organization in South Africa. You must submit a money order or cashier’s check for the initial payment of $440 with your initial application. You are required to send in the payment balance at Step 2 of the application process. Program Eligibility: You must be aged 18-35 at the time of travel, a current university student or recent graduate, and a US citizen. You also need to be an enthusiastic, energetic self-starter and able to live and work in a rural community with which you may not be familiar. Previous work abroad experience is preferable. Program Description: If you'd like to be a volunteer overseas on a short-term basis, Volunteer South Africa offers you the chance to spend five to seventeen weeks working on a project in or near Cape Town. This is an exciting opportunity for you to live in and experience South Africa first-hand. You'll also gain many personal benefits, valuable new skills to add to your résumé and feel a real sense of satisfaction and achievement. There are eight main areas of placement. These are: Environment Conservation, Wildlife, Health, Sports, Summer 'theme' camps, Housing construction, Education and Social Welfare. The working week is normally five days and you can expect to work for between 30-40 hours per week. Placements are unpaid and last for 5-17 weeks with one week's welcome orientation given by SASTS, the South African Students Travel Service and program sponsor. Accommodation and meals are included as part of your volunteer placement and are covered by the program costs. Participants live either in accommodation provided by the employer or in a homestay, with a room in a local family home. There are weekly arrival dates for the program. You may specify the month you wish to travel and once you are accepted on to the program, BUNAC provides you with the available arrival dates. 1-4 month Australian Visa program for individuals with a US passport interested in a self-structured work experience. Available year-round. $655. This covers administration in both America and Australia, the A$250 (currently) Australian Government visa fee, courier fees, program handbook, Lonely Planet guidebook, two nights' accommodation, orientation in Sydney or Melbourne and on-going support services from IEP for your entire time in Australia. Program Eligibility: The special 4-month '416' visa is open to anyone who is a US citizen (holding a US passport) aged 18-30 inclusive. Program Description: The Work Australia '416' visa allows participants to work for up to four months and is a perfect option for Gap Year students (between high school and university), or those who only have a short time to spend in Australia. The special '416' Visa gives you a great deal of flexibility. You can take any job anywhere in Australia; you can pre-arrange your job or look after arrival - it's your choice. At the end of the four months, you may want to apply to change your status to visitor. This allows you to stay for an additional three months to travel but you are not able to work. The cost of the three month visitor visa is currently A$215. You specify the date you wish to enter Australia and book your flight accordingly. On the '416' visa the four-month program "clock" starts ticking on your specified entry date and expires exactly four months later. Please note that if, for example, you have to enter a week after the specified date, you will lose a week of your four month's work authorization. Program Includes:
1-6 month exchange program for full-time students with a US passport interested in a self-structured work experience. Toronto and Vancouver available year-round. Montreal available summers only. Program cost is $250. More Information...Program Website: http://www.bunac.org/usa/workcanada/ Program Location: Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal, Canada Program Duration: Up to six months, start dates are available throughout the year Program Costs: The program fee is $250 plus the mandatory travel insurance. This covers administration in America and Canada, overnight courier fees, program handbook and use of SWAP hosting centers in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal (summer only) for job and accommodation listings and program support. You will also need to pay the Canadian Government entry fee of $150, this is payable at the time of application and can be combined with your program fee and insurance premium. Program Eligibility: You must be a US citizen (preferably holding a US passport) aged 18-30 inclusive and a full-time student taking at least eight credit hours and enrolled for either Fall 2008 or Spring 2009 at a US accredited college or university. Proof of student status must be either an official or unofficial transcript or a signed letter on official stationery from your school. Please note that US students on study or semester abroad (except in Canada) who are still considered full-time at a US college or university ARE eligible for the program. You should also note that while on this visa you cannot attend any educational institutions or take any courses in Canada other than English or French as a second language. Program Description: Work Canada gives you the opportunity to work in one of Canada's outstanding ski areas in the winter, or experience big city life in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal year-round. Summer options might include working in a Canadian coastal, mountain or lakeside resort. Canada has much to offer, it's easy to get there and participants can quickly settle into Canadian life. Work Canada is a program authorized by the Canadian Government to allow US college/university students aged 18-30 to work and travel in Canada. The Canadian sponsor is SWAP, Student Work Abroad Programs. While you are in Canada, SWAP provides on the spot backup and support. BUNAC will issue you with a SWAP Certificate of Participation. On arrival at a Canadian Port of Entry, you present this certificate to Canadian Immigration along with acceptable identification (preferably a US passport). You will then be issued with your Canadian work visa - the Open Employment Authorization document, valid for up to six months. Please note you MUST have the Certificate of Participation from BUNAC in your hand when you enter Canada. You choose the date you wish to enter Canada within your eligibility period and book your own travel accordingly. If you submit full-time student status for Fall 2008 you must enter Canada by August 15, 2009. Spring 2009 student status will permit entry up to February 15, 2010. It is strongly recommended that you attend an arrival orientation. Orientations are held at SWAP offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, although orientations in Montreal are limited to one a week from September to May. Program Includes:
1-3 month exchange program for full-time students with a US passport and a conversant level of French interested in a self-structured work experience. Available May through September. $675. More Information...Program Website: http://www.bunac.org/usa/workinfrance/ Program Location: France Program Duration: Up to three months between May and September Program Costs: The fee for Work in France is $675 plus mandatory insurance (currently $189 for three months’ coverage). The fee covers administration in the US and France, courier fees, the program handbook, Lonely Planet guidebook, two nights’ youth hostel accommodation and orientation on arrival, assistance with obtaining work permit, mail holding, and ongoing help and support for the duration of the program. It may be sometime after arrival before you receive your first paycheck so you are required to take a minimum of 1500 Euros with you to France. Program Eligibility:You must be a US citizen aged between 18 and 35 and a current full-time student at an accredited US university or college. You must be able to communicate effectively in French (your level of French language skill will be assessed via written test) and be able to take with you at least 1500 Euros in support funds. Participants can work in France for up to three months anytime during May to September. Program Description: This program provides a unique and affordable way to gain work experience while finding out first hand what it’s really like to live in France. Work in France is authorized by the French government and enables US university students to participate in French life through taking employment for up to three months during the summer. The French sponsor organization is Aquarius. Based in Paris, they are on-hand to provide help and support for the duration of your stay. Program Includes:

More Information...Program Website: http://www.bunac.org/usa/workinireland/ Program Location: Ireland Program Duration: Up to four months, start dates are available throughout the year Program Costs: The Work in Ireland program fee is $430 for 2009 arrivals plus insurance. This covers administration and support in America and Ireland, overnight courier fees, program handbook, Lonely Planet guidebook and the first night's accommodation in Dublin with breakfast and orientation. Applicants in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico need to send an additional $10 for extra courier charges. It could be some time after arrival before you receive your first paycheck so it is vital that you arrive in Ireland with sufficient funds in-hand to pay for accommodation, food, travel and other expenses during these initial weeks. All participants are required to register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau in Dublin within a month of arrival. The registration fee is currently 150 Euros. At the time of registration you will receive your work authorization. BUNAC recommends that participants have at least 1000 Euros available to them to ensure an anxiety-free start to the program. You should also be aware that when you first move into your permanent accommodation you will probably have to pay two months' rent (one month in advance and one month as security deposit). Program Eligibility: You must be a US citizen aged at least 18 and a full-time student (at least eight credits) at an accredited US university/college or a recent graduate (within one semester). Please note that if you are submitting student status for Fall 2008 semester, you must enter Ireland by 30th June 2009;For Spring 2009 semester, you have until December 31, 2009 to enter Ireland. USIT does not recommend arriving in Ireland during December and January as it can be difficult to find work during these months. Program Description: Work in Ireland is authorized by the Irish Government to allow US students to travel and work in Ireland for up to four months. The sponsor in Ireland is USIT and the program is administered in the USA by BUNAC. On Work in Ireland, you are permitted to take any job, anywhere in the Republic of Ireland in order to support yourself financially. Participants must book a flight to Dublin as this is the location of the mandatory arrival orientation. Orientations are held on average three times a week and last about one and a half hours. The four-month program clock starts ticking on entry into Ireland and will expire exactly four months later. It is not possible to extend this visa. Program Includes:

More Information...Program Website: http://www.bunac.org/usa/workNewZealand/ Program Location: New Zealand Program Duration: Up to twelve months, start dates are available throughout the year Program Costs: The program fee is $495 plus mandatory travel insurance. This covers administration and support in both America and New Zealand, courier fees, program handbook, Lonely Planet guidebook, two nights’ accommodation and orientation in Auckland plus ongoing support from the IEP staff for your entire stay. Moreover, BUNAC takes care of all the visa arrangements on your behalf. Program Eligibility: You must be a US citizen (holding a US passport) aged 18-35 inclusive and physically present in the US for the application process. Program Description: Work New Zealand is authorized by the New Zealand Government to allow young Americans aged 18-35 to travel and work in New Zealand for up to 12 months. Your sponsor in New Zealand is BUNAC’s subsidary organization, International Exchange Programs (IEP). The program is administered in the USA by BUNAC on behalf of International Exchange of North America (IENA), which in turn sponsors New Zealand student exchanges to the USA. On this Special Category Working Visa, you are permitted to take any job, anywhere in New Zealand in order to help support yourself financially. This BUNAC/IEP program goes beyond the working holiday scheme by providing year-long on the spot support and advice for participants. IEP provides a job placement service for casual jobs and has a huge amount of information and help available on finding work and on life in general in New Zealand. Choosing to go with BUNAC/IEP gives participants the security of knowing that they will not be on their own when arriving in a foreign country. IEP will be there to greet you and take care of you for as long as you need help. Meeting other participants from around the world is easy through the Auckland resource centre and the IEP social program. Orientations are held on average three times a week and last about three hours. After your orientation, you can be as independent and free as you choose and still have the knowledge that IEP will be there to help you if needed. Program Includes:
