Strongyloides
General Information
Strongyloides, in filaform larva form, is an organism seen in respiratory specimens often as a result of “superinfection” in immunocomprimised individuals or patients on high doses of steroids. It’s internal structure and notched tail allows it to be recognized as a parasite rather than as a cotton or synthetic fiber contaminent. Occasionally, larvae may be dislodged or actively from their initial positions on the slide, creating a “negative image”, thus betraying its original location.
