Gardinella vaginalis

General information
A coccobacillus that is sexually transmitted, it is associated with foul smelling discharge and a characteristic smear pattern. Myriads of coccobacilli are present and the population consists almost entirely of intermediate squamous cells covered in bacteria. Although the cells overlaid with the coccobacilli have been designated “clue cells”, the appearance is suggestive of Gardinella vaginalis infection.
