After becoming an RN with an associate’s degree, Ibrahim Thabet said, “I felt that my journey was not complete. I decided to continue my education at Upstate Medical University because of the school's rich tradition of prestige.
I could not have imagined an easier transition.” Ibrahim achieved his goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner by earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of Nursing.

The College of Nursing offers students in the master's program an option to obtain an Education Certificate to prepare for a role as a nurse educator. This nine credit program includes three courses:
- Nurse as Educator (required of all bachelor's and master's students)
- Curriculum and Program Development
- Educational Evaluation (Students work with a preceptor to gain experience in the role of educator.)
All courses for the Education Certificate may be completed in two semesters. A minimum of 6 credits must be taken at SUNY Upstate.
