Board Meeting Minutes - April 6, 2010

Attendance: Nancy Lyon, Bonnie Miner, Roberta Rolland, Peg Ryan, Sue Segreti, Marti Stoecker, Dean Szigeti

  1. Meeting was called to order shortly after 5:00PM. Executive reports with no changes from month prior

  2. Report on upcoming event planning deferred. September event suggested.
  3. Leadership Succession: Peg Ryan (pegryan@crouse.org), Sue Segreti (sesegret@twcny.rr.com), or Rosemary Gates (rosemarygates@crouse.org).
    • Elections:
      • Email to membership for nominations for open positions with description of duties/responsibilities.
      • A hard copy will also be sent to active members. Members will be asked to update their email address.
      • Open positions include: President – Elect, Secretary, Leadership Succession (two positions), Governance (three positions).
      • Voting will be online using Zoomerang.
      • Election results will be announced at the Annual Picnic in June.
  4. Research Advisory Group
    • The Wine & Cheese Fundraiser is planned for Friday, April 9, 2010. Information will be emailed to the membership.
    • Omicron Alpha in collaboration with the College of Nursing will host a poster presentation April 22, 2010 at the Institute of Human Performance.
  5. Facebook: Nancy Lyon, Robin Wensel, and Sanju Johri created a facebook page titled Omicron Alpha Chapter - Sigma Theta Tau International. It went live the last week of March. For those not familiar with facebook: Go to facebook.com, create an account, and then you can search for Omicron Alpha Chapter - Sigma Theta Tau International and become a fan.
  6. Annual Picnic Planned for Thursday, June 17th.  Bonnie will check availability of last year’s place at the Dewitt town pavilion. All agreed to have the picnic catered by Dinosaur BBQ.
  7. Induction – fall 2010. The board agreed to keep the induction at the Renaissance with the same set up. Roberta will check on available dates, cross check with conflicting schedules/events, and reserve the room.
  8. Syracuse Chapters Collaboration:: Several representatives of Omicron Alpha, Omicron (Syracuse University Alumni), and LeMoyne College met in March to discuss collaborative efforts between the three chapters/society that reside within a close proximity. LeMoyne College’s Nursing Honor Society is in position to apply for chapter status. Discussions are focused on collaborative options including consortium vs. at-large chapter formation. Representatives for Omicron Alpha included Marti Stoecker, Roberta Rolland, Dean Szigeti, and Barb Fero (past president 1998). The group plans to further research information on consortia and at-large chapters. Next meeting is planned for May 6th.
  9. Community Involvement: Amaus Medical Services at the Cathedral Downtown Syracuse provides health care for the homeless and underinsured. Omicron Alpha has adopted Amaus to help with its endeavors.
    • Sock Drive - Amaus distributes new socks to patients to promote good foot care. They host a foot care clinic as well.  You may notice collection boxes for new socks at the College of Nursing and throughout Upstate. Members are encouraged if possible to place a collection box for new socks at their facility. Please contact Maria Lumbrazo for further details (lumbrazm@upstate.edu.).  Discussed increasing advertising for sock donations.
    • Amaus is on Facebook  - Amus Health Services at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
  10. Monthly Board Meetings Open to Membership – Monthly meetings will be the first Tuesday of the month with exception of July and August.
  11. Meeting was adjourned at 6:00PM

Next meeting date will be May 4th, 5PM to 6PM at the College of Nursing.
