Omicron Alpha Meeting Minutes
March 8, 2005
Meeting at College of Nursing, 5:30 pm
12 people in attendance
The meeting started with the announcement that the ballot for bylaws and secretary,
Jill Agne, were passed. Thank you Jill. Jill is filling the position that has
been vacant since July 2004 and runs through July 2006.
The annual selection process for induction was then facilitated by Meega Wells
and Debora Kirsch, faculty counselors. Meega and Deb prepared charts for all
categories of inductees for ease of review. All candidates were accepted if
all appropriate information had been received.
The new online induction process was discussed. International will charge
us $150.00 if we do not use this system. Meega, Debora, Karen D. and Nancy Lyon
will plan to work with this new process. A webcast was attended by these individuals
to try to better understand the new process. This will allow candidates to communicate
directly with International for induction as well as any items they would like
to purchase.
Regarding induction on May 21, 2005 at 10:00, Weiskotten Hall, Main Auditorium:
we discussed having current members escort or introduce new inductees to allow
for some connection with the chapter. If anyone is interested in helping with
induction in this way or would like to help before or after the ceremony, please
contact Nancy Lyon at the College of Nursing or Karen Dygert via email at kmdpnp@twcny.rr.com.
There was discussion about a speaker and topic for induction. Ann Sedore,
Chief Nursing Officer at University Hospital, was the unanimous choice for speaker;
Karen will contact her to ask her to speak. The topic agreed upon, although
also open to what Ann would like to speak about if she agrees is, Professional
Visioning and Strategies for Nursing; Importance of thinking long term.
Nursing Summit: April 22-23, 2005 @ the OnCenter. We will have our annual
meeting at the time set aside on Friday morning. We are sponsoring a track of
speakers as well as the Poster Session. There will also be a silent auction
fundraiser at the Poster Session to benefit Nursing Research and the Maggie
Argentine Scholarship fund. Letters have gone out to current members requesting
donations. If anyone knows of a business or group that would like to donate,
please contact Cynthia French at cynfren@yahoo.com
or Liz Malcolm at lmalcolm@twcny.rr.com
.
The nominating committee (Leadership Succession Committee with new bylaws)
will be meeting to fill open seats starting July 2005. We will need a President
Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, one Faculty Counselor and three seats each
on Leadership Succession and Governance Committee. Since Committee membership
needs to be voted on we have deemed the Research group an Advisory Counsel at
this time. Please let Melanie Kalman at kalmanm@upstate.edu
or Denise Dann at Denise.Dann@sjhsyr.org
know if you are interested in any of these positions. Your assistance is greatly
appreciated.
Please be sure to have your current email submitted to International when
renewing. In the meantime, please send your current email address to Karen Dygert
at kmdpnp@twcny.rr.com if you have
not done so already. We are planning to do more communication via email. Also
check the College of Nursing website and use the Omicron Alpha button to access
information. We are always looking for more suggestions and assistance if anyone
is interested. We also need a newsletter editor if that anyone has interest
in that area.
We look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming meetings and gatherings.
Your input is always appreciated.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Dygert, RN, MSN, PNP-C
President, Omicron Alpha Chapter
