FPMHNP—Admission Requirements
The Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse practitioner degree program is open to nurses with a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree. Registered nurses with an associates degree may apply through our RN-to-MS program.
Nurses with a bachelor's degree who wish to enroll in the program must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0. A higher GPA may be necessary to be competitive for admission
- Current New York state RN license
- Current CPR certification
- Basic Health Assessment (NURS 310 or 300 level or higher course) and Basic Statistics (3 credits each) ideally taken within the last five years
Note: Students may apply directly from a bachelor's program. GREs and RN work experience are not required.
Nurses with a master's degree who wish to enroll in the post-master's program to receive this specialization must meet these requirements:
- Clinical master's degree in nursing (NP, CNS programs)
- Health assessment skills
- Current New York state RN license
- Current CPR certification
Note: Previous education and clinical experience will be evaluated to plan the post-master student’s program of study.
Nurses with an associate's degree may apply through our RN-to-MS process, where they will first earn their Bachelor's degree. They will then transition to the Master's program.
