Close the PubMed window to return to this page.Additional InformationDr. Epling joined the Department of Family Medicine in 1999 as an Assistant Professor and Resident Faculty for the Family Practice Residency Program in Lafayette, NY. After the closing of the residency in 2001, Dr. Epling assumed the role of Assistant Professor in the Center for Evidence-Based Practice in the Department of Family Medicine. He earned a Master of Education degree in 2004 from the Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship in Evidence-Based Practice, Policy and Education at SUNY Upstate.Dr. Epling graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1992 and completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC in 1995. After residency, he served four years in the Navy, the last two of which he was residency faculty at the Family Practice Residency, US Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, FL, as well as, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Over the last 20 years, Dr. Epling has been awarded numerous awards including 1995's Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resident Teaching Award, and The Sister Mary Vera Recognition Award from Vera House in 2004. He has also authored/co-authored over 30 publications, reports, editorials and book chapters and has given more than 36 presentations in the last 10 years Dr. Epling's research activities include the translation of medical research evidence into clinical practice, domestic violence awareness training, and using technology to obtain quick answers to clinical questions. He teaches medical students, family medicine residents and practicing family physicians the concepts of critical appraisal of research, epidemiology and study design, and integration of technology to facilitate ongoing learning. In addition, he teaches clinical skills and evidence based medicine in the Practice of Medicine course, and prevention, public health and epidemiology in the Preventive Medicine course.
