The Blackwell Medical Scholarship Program
provides a unique opportunity for first-year students. Those who meet and maintain the standards of the program are guaranteed a place in our College of Medicine upon their graduation from Hobart & William Smith Colleges.
This program is for high school students who are from rural areas, underrepresented minority groups or are the first generation in their families to attend college. To be considered, you must:
- Have 1250 combined SAT Scores (Math & Verbal only) or 28 ACT Composite
- Have a minimum 90% High School Grade Point Average
- Demonstrate commitment to a career in medicine
Students accepted into this program will complete their undergraduate degree at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and are guaranteed admission to Upstate's College of Medicine, pending all program standards are met.
Acceptance into these programs indicates your willingness to participate in the Rural Medical Scholars Program (RSMP). You will therefore be assigned to the RMSP track as a medical student at SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Dean,
College of Medicine
I am particularly honored to serve as Dean of the College of Medicine. As an alumnus of the Class of 1979 and a member of the faculty since 1986, I have been extraordinarily pleased at the growth of the Medical School over this time and proud of the work of its faculty and graduates.
